Scott Ale
A robust Scotch Ale brewed in collaboration with rock star Scott Murphy
Style: Wee Heavy
ABV: 9%
Category: Beer
This "Scott Ale" is our latest collaboration with rock star Scott Murphy. It started with his request to "make a Scotch Ale," and we went all-in on the process. We used seven different malts. Six of these are crystal malts, which provide a multi-layered profile of dark caramel, toffee, subtle notes of plum and raisin, and a pervasive malty sweetness that ties everything together.
Despite its rich flavor, the finish is dry, balanced to ensure the sweetness doesn't linger too long. We used an English-style yeast for fermentation, with hints of apricot and peach that highlight the traditional Scotch Ale character.
The ABV is 9%, but it provides only a gentle warmth that contributes to the overall harmony of the beer. In an era where IPAs dominate the craft beer scene, it is nice to take your time and enjoy a different style once in a while. This beer is also well-suited for aging, so please enjoy tasting it at different times: now, a year from now, and even further into the future.
- Flavor & Aroma: Dark caramel, toffee, plum, raisin, apricot, peach
- Body & Mouthfeel: Robust, gentle warmth, full-bodied yet clean
- Pairing: Roast beef, aged cheddar, caramel desserts
- Sales Info: Limited collaboration release

Scott Ale is our newest collaboration with rock star Scott Murphy, who wanted to brew a proper Scotch Ale — so we went all in. This beer uses seven different malts, six of them crystal malts, layered together to create deep complexity: dark caramel, toffee, hints of plum and raisin, and an overall malty sweetness.
Despite its richness, the beer finishes dry, keeping it from becoming cloying or overly sweet. We fermented it with an English-style yeast that brings classic notes of apricot and peach, enhancing the traditional Scotch Ale character.
At 9% ABV, the beer gives only a light warming sensation while providing balance and structure. In a world dominated by hops and IPA-centric craft beer, this is a refreshing change of pace — a beer meant to be savored. And it’s one that will only get better with time, so we recommend enjoying one now, one in a year, and another even later.
